Our programs range from visiting seniors in their place of residence, programs providing seniors with technology to enable them to be visited remotely and programs where people can drop in for an unscheduled chat via easy-to-use video technology.
We have programs that improve people’s connection by helping them gain confidence using digital communication tools and programs that promote confidence to move freely without fear of falls. Aurous Digital is a social connection program that enhances the lives of seniors by supporting them to be happy, healthy, and socially active.
The basis for our digital program is the connection of participants to friendly volunteers, who video chat with them on a regularly for social interaction and companionship.
The program is suitable for first time digital technology users as all program participants are provided with an easy-to-use mobile device that comes pre-connected to the internet.
As part of the Federal Government’s Community Visitors Scheme Aurous provides in-home volunteer visitors to seniors in several regions in Australia. Our visitors attend the senior’s place of residence for a friendly social chat each week and the visits are for the sole purpose of companionship and friendship.
The Aurous Falls Prevention Program for Seniors aims to improve the physical condition and confidence of seniors who are at risk of falls, thereby improving their participation in community and their quality of life. We use the well tested Otago Falls Prevention Protocol as designed by the Otago University. Participants in the program are given access to video examples of the simple balance and strength exercises which they perform 3 times per week. This is backed up by a weekly check in call from our program coordinator to keep them motivated and help with any issues they are facing with the program. This program is available as an add on to all seniors participating in our Digital Social Connection Program.
The Aurous Drop-In Video Chat for Seniors is a virtual drop-in centre for seniors who feel like a chat with a friendly volunteer and any other seniors who are dropping in at the same time. The Chat is moderated by volunteers during business hours and link to the chat is available automatically on the Aurous device provided to participants of the Aurous Digital Program. Seniors who are not part of the Aurous Digital Social Connection Program are invited to join the drop-in chat by following a link sent to them upon request.
Aurous offers a digital mentoring service for seniors who would like to build confidence using digital communications technology. Participants in the service are matched with a volunteer mentor who provides helpful guidance in order to build the participants confidence using digital technology. Session times are negotiable between individual participant and mentor but are commonly held on a weekly basis for approximately an hour each week. All Aurous Digital Mentoring sessions are conducted using a mix of telephone calls and screen sharing technology.
Aurous Radio is a free 24hr/7day a week streaming service for seniors, playing music
